Somewhere in 1996, in Covilhã, a small town from the entrails of Portugal, Impius, Arcanus and Cultus Profanus joined forces to make possible an old will of both: creating the most extreme, brutal and obscure Metal band they could. Using words from the Norwegian "Inner" Circle / "Helvete" Shop and inspired by the hell within, the band would be known as Inner Helvete.
In the first years they kept rehearsing and neither releases nor live performances were made, although some recordings were done for personal use only.
The first release came out as a promo-tape entitled "Satanic Hecatomb", followed by the demo-tape "Glorification of the Unholy Lord", both in 2000. The split-tape "Satanic Metal" with Necrocult from Brazil, was released in 2001 and "Burning the False Idol", a split-tape with the compatriots Sterkvind, came out in 2002.
One year before, Ordealis Records from France, proposed a deal that would result in two releases: the full lenght "Total Bloodshedding Devastation" LP (also released on tape by Hell War Productions, at that time property of Impius and Cultus Profanus) and the split 7" EP "United Terror Division", with Front Beast from Germany. Both records came out in 2002, the most active period in the history of Inner Helvete, having three releases in the same year.
"The Hordes of the Imperial Hell", a split-tape with Armaggedon from France, was released in 2003 and contained previously unreleased tracks recorded before the debut promo-tape.
In the same year, the track "Total Holocaust in the Kingdom of the Eternal Lie - part 2 (Devastate... Rape... Obliterate!)" was specially recorded for the portuguese Black Metal compilation "Lusitânia Dark Horde".
The last of this continuous cicle of releases was "Conquering the World with True Black Metal War", a four-way split LP with Misanthropy from the U.S., Armaggedon from France and Besatt from Poland, released in 2004.
By the end of 2003, Mortiferus was invited by Impius to become a member of Inner Helvete. He would bring his old school lead guitar approach to the band and turn its sound even more insane. After months rehearsing, they composed 14 new tracks with the only purpose of playing them live.
The first appearance occured in 2004 at the well-known Birras Bar in Covilhã, where Inner Helvete shared the stage with Hellbastards and Inferium. After that initial display of hatred, the band also played live at "Legion Fest", "Extreme Metal Attack" and "The Sun Sets Forever".
The last live performance happened in 2006, at the VIth "Extreme Metal Attack" Festival. Some months after, Cultus Profanus decided to leave the band, for his vision concerning the future of Inner Helvete diverged from the rest of the band members.
The following months were of silence, the band rehearsed no more and its future was uncertain. In 2007, to comemorate the eleventh anniversary of the band, Impius and Arcanus decided to release the "11 Years of Blasphemy and Chaos" DVD-R, a video footage from Inner Helvete's stage desecration at the Vth "Extreme Metal Attack".
In 2008, the two brothers came to know that Mortiferus was no longer in Portugal. They wanted to keep the band alive so, from time to time, they rehearsed and played some old songs.
Meanwhile, Impius met Abrcdvr, they shared some musical and lyrical ideas and the thought of producing something together gained life.
The rebirth of Inner Helvete took place in 2009, when Abrcdvr joined the band and added his writings and multifaceted voice to the initial will of creating the most extreme, brutal and obscure Metal sound.
In a few months they composed and recorded two new tracks, "Eterno Confronto" and "Light", and a version of "Que o Mundo Morra (Sob o Jugo da Nossa Supremacia)" from the "Burning the False Idol" split-tape. "The Final Hecatomb" in 2010 was the last release. In early 2011 Abrcdv left the band.
In 2012 Abaddon joined Inner Helvete and a new battle begins...
